One thing nobody seems to disagree is the fact that Tanja Kensinger and Jorge Burgos are big celebrity personalities in the Bachata scene worldwide. You are a Bachata affectionate and never heard of them before? How about Ataca & La Alemana?
Every single human being on planet Earth who shares any interested on Bachata has eventually clicked on their 2008 YouTube debut video responsible for unexpectedly skyrocketing their fame with the routine “Te Extrano” by Xtreme. The video had over 50.000.000 clicks. In case you are kind of confused with all the zeros, that’s right. Over fifty million views! And they are celebrating it Big Apple style, throwing a party in New York City’s iconic Club Cache in the Times Square area. BachataB was there to grab a bite.
Tanja Kensinger was originally born in Germany into a family with dance background - her mother was a ballroom dance instructor. A great deal of her childhood was spent in classroom isles and backstages, among dancers who often saw her as their little charm or cute mascot. So it is right to assume that her destiny was sealed. She has danced since her memory can recall, having been trained in ballroom, jazz, ballet, rock-n-roll, swing, and many of the Latin style dances.
Tanja immigrated to the United States by the way of the military in 1996. But it was not until 2005 that she was introduced to the world of Salsa. She received much of her basic training with her previous dance partner and boyfriend at that time Nery Garcia mostly on LA style Salsa on 1. She lost no time and endeavoured to make herself into a dance instructor in 2006, becoming a part owner of one of the top salsa dance companies in Fort Myers, Florida.
In 2008 Bachata crossed her path – or fair to say, she crossed Bachata’s path. Tanja quickly learned how to apply her previous knowledge and training into the Bachata patterns. Worldly known for her infectious energy within the classroom, she is one of the most popular dancers in the Bachata scenario.
Along with her dance partner & boyfriend Jorge Burgos, Tanja has been teaching Bachata and Salsa workshops, and performing since 2008 at various congresses in all continents. On this same year they founded Island Touch Dance Academy in partnership with “El Tiguere del Mambo”. Island Touch is not only a dance studio. It is a concept, a brand that envisions to spread worldwide.
As one can see they don’t waist time. Their determination is as powerful as their passion for dance. Being involved with so many projects in coexistence requires a lot of energy. And that Jorge Burgos, known as Ataca, has plenty to spear.
Jorge was born in Puerto Rico and at the age of six moved to Orlando, FL with his parents and brother. He excels in just about anything he puts himself into. Growing up playing baseball, he was later offered a baseball scholarship to Saint Leo University in Tampa-FL, which he graduated with a Business Management Degree in 2005. Shortly after in 2006, he was introduced to NY style Salsa in a nightclub in Tampa and started taking on 2 classes. The instructor of the studio he attended commented that no one had ever progressed and learned with such great talent and potential. Within only eight months he started teaching.
After graduating, Jorge found himself with a potential life changing choice between pursuing either baseball or Salsa as a career. It took him a lot of home runs and dancing to burn all that energy into a decision. Thank goodness, dance had become his first passion.
His teaching style transmits his high energy and great deal of humor with an incredible capability of breaking down material so students can fully comprehend elaborate moves known as shines.
Together Tanja & Jorge and Island Touch aim to conquer the planet, touching the world one city at a time as their dance academy motto states. In order to stay up-to-date with the latest tendencies, they are currently moving to New York City. After all, if you can make it there you’d make it anywhere.
Constantly tuned with the business sector development, they are very aware and knowledgeable of their niche. Branding their names in the market with products that range from dance shoes to providing online dance instruction via virtual classes.
